The museum scene in Weimar, which is the capital city of German classicism and the birthplace of the Bauhaus movement, will be enriched in the medium term by a much commended group of buildings. The Bauhaus Museum, which is currently in temporary accommodation in the Kunsthalle (art hall) on Theaterplatz, is to move into a worthy new home in 2015. 536 participants from all over the world responded to the international architectural competition declared by the Weimar Classicism Foundation. This enormous rush of competitors is not surprising in view of the importance of Bauhaus for the development of modern architecture. 27 teams were eventually invited to take part in an anonymous competition. Here, Dr. L\u00fcchinger+Meyer Bauingenieure planned the load-bearing structure together with the bube architectural office. The design by the Rotterdam architects proposed three transparent glass cubes facing the park of the adjacent Weimarhalle congress centre.<\/p>\n
