The new stadium of the FC St. Gallen is embedded into a shopping and leisure complex, which extends underneath the stadium structure itself. The concrete structure of the main grandstand, located parallel to the motorway, was built below an encircling stadium roof. In order to keep the spectator stands below the boxes free of any pillars, the top two boxes on the sixth floor overhanging towards the pitch were suspended using prestressed concrete girders. The stands in the three other sectors of the stadium were constructed as steel structures connected to suspended reinforced concrete sawtooth beams. Thanks to the close cooperation of the entire planning team, it was possible to successfully take into account the following sometimes challenging boundary conditions:

  • The client’s budgetary constraints,
  • The architect’s design requirements,
  • Vibration resistance,
  • Seismic safety,
  • Fire protection.
