The apartment building is part of the Andermatt Reuss resort, which complements the mountain village of Andermatt as a new village district, combining a strong commitment to traditional building methods with a focus on technology and sustainability. High-quality apartment buildings and hotels have been constructed around Piazza Gottardo on a base of infrastructure.
The Andermatt building, with main dimensions of 21.0 x 24.5 m, consists of seven above-ground floors accessed via a central stairwell. The ground floor houses retail spaces and a wellness area, while the upper floors contain apartments. The two-story maisonette apartments are each accessed via an internal staircase. The spatial backbone of the apartments is formed by a sequence of polygonal rooms: from the stairwell through the two-story hall to the living room, which opens onto three sides. Three bay windows and various irregularly offset window openings characterize the design of the geometrically complex building.
The building was constructed as a solid structure with a wooden roof structure. The floor slabs rest on the concrete facade, core, and apartment partition walls and columns, thereby transferring the vertical loads to the support slab of the basement.
