Bornblick – A new centre for Rothrist

South of Rothrist railway statio, a taller building is to be constructed, setting a new urban accent on the central development area, strengthening the address of the station square as a landmark, combining living and working, and enlivening the public space with public-oriented uses.
The «Bornblick» project by the team led by WALDRAP Architects has won the study contract. The design includes a 30-metre-high building with a striking presence and a simple, robust structure that ensures maximum flexibility. The building, divided into a tower and a base, is adaptable and can be modified to accommodate change and future needs. In addition, the moderate height of the building enables a resource-saving construction method. Slimmer structures, lower material usage and reduced technical requirements reduce grey energy consumption.

The supporting structure developed by LÜCHINGER MEYER PARTNER follows the principle of a slim concrete skeleton: a serial system of thin ceilings and prefabricated element columns enables a short construction time and direct, efficient load transfer. The compact core combines access and bracing, allowing the floor plans to remain flexible and enabling subsequent adjustments without structural intervention. Basements are reduced to the necessary minimum in order to save material and energy. The result is a durable, resource-saving structure with a clear layout, high adaptability and long-term cost-effectiveness.
