The green power plant in Altstetten

The current weather conditions are not only delighting Zurich’s summer enthusiasts but also ensuring productive days for the new green power plant in Altstetten. The expansion and renovation of the Energie 360° headquarters was completed this spring. The elongated building’s façade is covered by 1,600 PV modules, making it an eye-catcher for all passing by on the Europabrücke. In addition to activating the building envelope, the project focused on redesigning and expanding the interior office space. Based on a winning competition entry by jessenvollenweider architektur, a contemporary work environment was created for approximately 330 employees.

For this purpose, additional new floor space was created in the areas of the former atrium and high-bay warehouse, for example. Additionally, measures were implemented to reinforce the building against earthquakes and punching shear to meet the requirement of current standards.

For LÜCHINGER MEYER PARTNER, this brings things full circle. In 2003, our office was commissioned to design the structural engineering for the existing building (“Werkhof Erdgas Zürich“), which has now been modernized in line with contemporary standards.
