End of the road quarter-finals
Last Saturday, 14 brave civil engineering teams from Zurich once again gathered in the Unterrohrdorf hall in Schlieren for the traditional Challenge Cup. The hot, summery day caused more than just physical exertion. The cool Limmat flows by less than 50 meters from the venue. Given this temptation, concentrating on the heated duels also demanded particular mental strength from the players.
The LÜCHINGER MEYER PARTNER team was not deterred by the thermometer and performed at its best as usual. After two wins (Heierli, Walt Galmarini), one defeat (Schnetzer Puskas) and a draw (IKON), we finished fourth in our group in the preliminary round and qualified for the final round.
Here we were beaten in the quarter-finals by the team from AFRY Schweiz AG, who went on to win the tournament. The decision was made after a 2:2 match result in a heart-stopping final in a 9-meter shoot-out. Although our goalie Gabriel almost outdid himself with two shots saved, his opponents proved to have the better nerves. Nevertheless, we applaud our LMP athletes for their convincing performance!
We congratulate the defending champions AFRY Schweiz AG on their renewed tournament success and would like to thank them for the excellent organization of the event and everyone involved for a fair and memorable football cup. See you in 2026 – challenge accepted!
