The Grand Casino Prilly project is part of a new development called ‘Les Balcons du Viaduc’, located north of Malley station, opposite the Vaudoise Arena, which includes the Tilia Tower, the renovation of the Badminton de Malley and the Casino. It is part of a complete transformation of the existing building located at Chem. du Viaduc 12 in Prilly, in order to accommodate gaming rooms, slot machines and commercial space. Developed in collaboration with the Burkhardt architectural firm, the project involves the complete replacement of the top three floors of the building, with only the load-bearing structures of the first two floors being preserved. The reinforced concrete slabs dating from 1980 are structurally deficient and are being reinforced by the addition of a layer of ultra-high performance fibre-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) and consolidated against punching shear using dowels drilled in situ.
The upper floors are rebuilt in a hybrid construction, combining mixed timber-concrete slabs, prefabricated prestressed beams and a timber frame to support the façade, following the sustainable principle of using the right material in the right place.
The increase in loads due to this renovation requires the foundations to be reinforced by installing micropiles in the basement. To ensure the safety of the adjacent buildings during the works, a metal bracing structure is being installed. This structure crosses the existing concrete base and stabilises the neighbouring building (Badminton sports centre), thus ensuring the feasibility of the project without compromising the immediate environment.
