YES they can

Last Thursday, for the 12th time, the Young Engineers’ Symposium (YES) from the IABSE Swiss national group provided a conference stage for the next generation of engineers. Young civil engineers gathered at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts to present their project and professional experiences and to network in an inspiring environment. The 13 impressive plenary presentations, which formed the centerpiece of the event, were complemented by valuable contributions from Valentina Kampusch, Melanie Truniger, and Clementine Hegner-van Rooden, as well as a panel discussion on sustainability.

Our structural engineers Isabel Stang and Konstantinos Voulpiotis represented LÜCHINGER MEYER PARTNER at YES 2026. In her presentation, Isabel introduced the Allmend School Complex project in Bülach, which she oversaw from inception through to construction. In collaboration with architects Ernst Niklaus Fausch Partner and contractor ERNE AG, a new school building and a sports hall are being built. The existing building is being renovated.
The presentation of Konstantinos focused on the seemingly small but highly complex renovation project for the main depot of the Zurich Museum of Ethnology (project partners: GFA Group for Architecture, BGS & Partner Architects). The young project manager faced here numerous challenges in structural, geotechnical, and bridge engineering within the highly sensitive architectural setting of the Botanical Garden.
