On 22 October 2026, the fib-CH Concrete Day will take place at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The Swiss group of the Fédération Internationale du béton (fib) has made it a tradition to use this event to showcase those outstanding achievements in concrete construction that were featured in a publication at the previous fib Congress. The project presentations will begin with the conversion of the Felix Platter Hospital in Basel. Four years after the completion of this still pioneering conservation project, tomorrow offers another opportunity to gain a first-hand insight into the ingenious design concept.
Project manager Andreas Gianoli of LÜCHINGER MEYER PARTNER, who oversaw the project from its successful entry in the competition – alongside Müller Sigrist Architekten and Rapp – right through to its completion, talks about the original design concept, the challenges involved in structural engineering and the respectful approach taken towards the listed building. We look forward to welcoming lots of visitors!
