A first in Madrid. Our growing Spanish team went on its first office excursion last week. And since history, art, and culture are right on our doorstep, exploring the capital was the obvious first choice. A day following in the footsteps of royalty. After a light mid-morning snack at the office, the team took the metro toward the Royal Palace. Leaving behind the famous Plaza España with the prominent Otamendi skyscrapers Edificio España and Torre Madrid, as well as the Cervantes monument, the “travelers” first treated themselves to a morning stroll through the palace gardens. This was followed by a guided tour of the magnificent Royal Palace, which was limited to 30 of the total 3,600 rooms and offered a glimpse into how the rulers of the former empire slept, sat on their thrones, and dined. Inspired by this, the team treated themselves to a royal lunch in the old town.
Our LMP Madrileños spent the afternoon in Retiro Park, itself a royal legacy: the spacious public park emerged from the gardens of the former Buen Retiro palace complex. With the rented “Diverbikes,” they were able to quickly and enjoyably traverse and explore the large park, including the rose garden (Rosaleda). A sundowner on a sunny terrace in the Retiro, followed by a stroll into the twilight, provided a relaxing conclusion.
¡Qué día tan bonito!
