An original idea accompanied the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for the extension and renovation of the Allmend school complex in Bülach last Friday. The pupils from the lower and middle school used their ingenuity to design a time capsule, which is a symbolic foundation stone under the floor slab waiting to be discovered in the distant future. Its contents: photos of the school classes in their classrooms and a digital collection of documents in which the children explain the world of today from their point of view and record their visions of the world of tomorrow.
Anchored firmly in the here and now and focussed on the recently started realisation, the team led by overall service provider Erne plus and architects Ernst Niklaus Fausch Partner followed the celebratory event.
The structural engineers from LÜCHINGER MEYER PARTNER involved are also delighted to have reached this milestone on time – the start of construction, the ‘royal stage’ of the project. Within a year and a half, what began with the joint competition success in 2022 is now set to take shape. The new school wing and the triple sports hall are scheduled to open at the start of the 2026/27 school year, while the school building, which will then be renovated, will reopen the following year. The two new buildings blend into the existing complex as simple, compact volumes. Timber-concrete hybrids characterise the load-bearing structures of the new buildings, which were planned to maximise flexibility.
