Constructional Steel Day 2026

Steel structures embody the perfect fusion of the metal’s inherent robustness with architectural creativity. Building on decades of experience with exceptional construction projects, the steel construction industry is constantly evolving and offers sophisticated solutions to the challenges of the present day.
This is the spirit behind the Constructional Steel Day taking place today in Fribourg, organised by the Swiss Center for Steel Construction and the Fribourg University of Applied Sciences and Arts. It aims to share and celebrate the latest achievements in the field of steel construction. Among the pioneering current projects to be presented at the event are the Gewerbebau Zwhatt in Regensdorf and the Greenhouse Pavilion at Opera Park, Copenhagen.

Etienne Bouleau, Lausanne branch manager at LÜCHINGER MEYER PARTNER, will present these two very different projects to the specialist audience. Whilst in the Gewerbebau (Graser Troxler Architekten) the steel is used pragmatically and visibly as part of the hybrid load-bearing structure to ensure a high degree of flexibility of use, the complex cantilevered steel rib structure of the roof truss, as an ‘invisible’ element, enhances the spatial effect of the Greenhouse Pavilion (Cobe).
