Guests at the topping-out ceremony for the Fohrbach swimming pool renovation project took home an original gift. In a year’s time, the bath towels presented will be able to be spread out on the sunbathing lawns of the completely refurbished swimming pool.
The completion of the extensive structural work was celebrated on Wednesday as an important milestone on the road to reopening in summer 2027. André Müller, Vice-President of the Municipal Council, combined his thanks to all those involved in the project with recollections of the 2022 referendum and the ‘surprises’ that had arisen during construction, such as the rusting chrome steel pool or the condition of the façade supports, the vast majority of which had to be replaced. Site manager Marco Dermond from the construction firm Spleiss also paid tribute to the collaborative effort with a short speech. The foreman secured the auspicious shards with a sweeping throw of the glass.
The structural and façade design team from LÜCHINGER MEYER PARTNER took the opportunity to conduct a brief on-site tour. In particular, the lack of engineering drawings for the existing structure, the various construction phases and renovation episodes of the building complex, as well as the harsh environmental conditions, presented our structural engineers with particular challenges during the planning and execution of this conservation project.
